What to Wear to Your Spray Tan (and What to Wear After)

You booked the tan for the big moment. The last thing you want is a waistband line, a bra-strap stripe or your favorite white sweatshirt ruined on the drive home. Here's what to wear to your spray tan, and why it matters.

The rules

  • Loose. Anything tight (leggings, skinny jeans, bra bands, sock cuffs) presses on wet solution and leaves lines.
  • Dark. Guide color can transfer. Black or deep tones hide it.
  • Breathable. Sweat is the enemy of an even tan. Choose soft, airy fabrics over synthetics that trap heat.
  • Easy on, easy off. Skip anything you have to pull tight over your head or shimmy into.

What to skip

  • Light or white clothes you love
  • Tight elastic, underwire and structured waistbands
  • Wool, heavy fleece or anything that makes you sweat
  • Jewelry and watches (put them in a bag, not on your wrist)

After your appointment

Most tans need several hours to develop before the first rinse. That's the stretch where you're sitting, driving, sleeping and living in whatever you wore. Plan for it: loose top, relaxed bottoms, slip-on shoes, and old dark sheets if you're sleeping in it.

Why we made The After Set

We couldn't find one outfit that checked every box, so we made it. The After Set is cut loose, made in soft, breathable Lenzing™ Modal, and comes in two dark shades (Extra Virgin and Pitted) so you can walk out of your appointment and get on with your day.
